På avstand / Far away

Far Away, written by Caryl Churchill. Translated to Nynorsk by Lena Sendstad. Presented in the evening ”Master i teater på den kjempestore hovedscenen” on the main stage at KHIO the 24th and 25th of November, 2022. In a kitchen in the middle of the night, Joan and aunt Harper meets. What is the uncle doing in the shed, in the garden? What has the child seen? ”På Avstand” is an exploration of sensual truth and manipulation, in the micro-pain and the macro-pain, based on the first scene from Caryl Churchill’s Far Away.

In this project I wanted to work with the vertical, and a big image in a classical way. Live camera and projection was important for the director. I mapped the three different surfaces and was able to project different colours and content, to play with the live photage and already recorded content. I also used the raw wall for projectiong a wider image, before and after we raised and lowerd the flybars with the grids. Materials like aluminium frames and iron grids, two big silk habutai and a string canvas created different rooms in the performance.
